I do not do so. The incidence of EPS within the first 5 years of PD is extremely low. Just as I do not discuss with patients the possible occurrence of rare complications of HD (e.g., osteomyelitis), I do not discuss EPS either. Probably not. It is a true risk, even though not common. I have seen it in at least 3-4 patients over many years of being a nephrologist. It is a horrible consequence, but dialysis, in general, is not easy. The balance is not to cause too much anxiety while being forthright to patients.
