How do you gain access to quinacrine, and what has your recent experience been?
It can be gotten from a few compounding pharmacies. The cost is high (around $400 a month) and usually not covered by insurance. One compounding pharmacy that often carries it is ChemistryRx in Philadelphia.
Agree with @Dr. First Last. Some additional information:
Some compounding pharmacists I spoke to were worried that some were getting quinacrine from non-FDA-approved sources (since the India factory was closed in 2019).
So, I called ChemistryRX and spoke to Lars Brichta, PharmD PhD
CSO and Director, ...
I have not used quinacrine for years, partly due to available alternatives as well as difficulty accessing.
Seeing the cost and factoring in the difficulty with prior authorization, I don’t think I will change my current practice.
Thank you Dr. @Dr. First Last for the answer. I have been using Brewerton pharmacy for compounding quinacrine, 100 mg/day, in Upstate New York.
